Overview:
In this interactive workshop, we’ll delve into the effective use of “hot” and “cold” debriefs to support your team in critical moments.
A “hot debrief” is a structured, immediate conversation following a critical event, focusing on psychological support. It allows staff to express emotions, receive validation, and offer mutual support. Events such as major maternal or neonatal resuscitation, neonatal or maternal death, peripartum hysterectomy, or traumatic births may prompt a hot debrief.
During this workshop, we’ll detail the process of a hot debrief, provide a structured approach for implementation in your workplace, and facilitate practice sessions in a safe and supportive environment.
In contrast, a “cold debrief” is a more formal, clinical narrative of a critical event. It focuses on clarifying events, education, and quality improvement. While the primary focus is on hot debriefs, we will touch briefly on cold debriefs, comparing and contrasting the two to ensure clarity on when and how to conduct each type effectively with your team.
Key Features:
- Explanation and implementation of hot debriefs
- Brief overview and comparison of cold debriefs
- Practice sessions for both types of debriefs
