RANZCOG 2022 ASM Overview
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists 2022 Annual Scientific Meeting (RANZCOG 2022 ASM) was held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from Monday 10 October – Wednesday 12 October 2022, with pre-meeting workshops being held on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October 2022. A virtual component was available for delegates that could not attend in person.
The meeting was attended by 1260 delegates
Under the theme “Transformation: Making Waves”, the three-day program introduced a swell of exciting innovations, new ways of thinking, practicing and learnings as practitioners, and as people.
The ASM featured:
- 3 days of sessions including plenaries, concurrent sessions and panel discussions
- 10 pre-meeting workshops and network meetings
- 56 exhibitors
- Over 180 accepted static and ePosters presentations
New Fellows and Awards
The New Fellows & Awards Presentation Ceremony and Reception was held at the HOTA, Home of the Arts on Sunday 9 October 2022. 80 newly elevated Fellows and recently certified subspecialists were presented to the Fellowship during the Presentation Ceremony. They were be joined by an additional 300 delegates and guests, including family and friends.
FREE COMMUNICATIONS, Platform Posters and ePosters
A total of 220 abstracts were received for consideration for Free Communication (oral presentation), Platform Poster and/or ePoster presentation. Abstracts were assessed by nominated members of the Organising Committee against pre-defined assessment criteria, with authors notified of their inclusion on the program or otherwise in mid-June.
During the main program days, 180 of ePosters were displayed electronically in the ePoster Presentation zone, 15 abstracts were presented as Free Communications and 20 as Static Posters.
Awards were presented for the best Early Career Researcher Presentation, Best Free Communication Oral Presentation (Aldo Vacca Award) and best Platform Poster. Free Communication Oral Presentations and Platform Posters were assessed on criteria including significance to the discipline of obstetrics and gynaecology or perinatal medicine; research design and methodology; and clarity of presentation. The awards were presented by RANZCOG President Dr Ben Bopp, during the meeting closing session.

Aldo Vacca Award
The award for Best Free Communications was awarded to Catriona Melville for the presentation titled Evaluation of an Eligibility Screening Tool for No-Ultrasound Medical Abortion Care.
Best Static
Poster Award
The award for Best Static Poster was awarded to Betrice Walker for the poster titled Identification and Monitoring of Foetal Growth Restriction and Induction of Labour
RANZCOG Early Career Researcher Award
The award for Early Career Research Award (Fellow) was awarded to Caitlin O’Rourke for the presentation titled Six years of Continuous Audit using the Robson Ten-Group Classification System at Palmerston North Hospital.
Diplomate Researcher Award
The award for Early Career Research Award (Diplomate) was awarded to Alexandra Fullerton for the presentation titled The impact of a Category One Caesarean Section Process implemented in 2008 on Decision to Delivery and Decision to Incision times at an Australian Tertiary Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital: A Five-year review between January 2015 and December 2019 demonstrates a sustained and impressive rapid response to life threatening obstetric emergencies.
